As mentioned in my previous post, going to Penang was a very very last minute decision. Port Dickson was the planned last stop in our West Malaysian road trip. We had intended to stay at the Avillion for only one night. However, that very night, the PSI in Singapore jumped from 190 to 290! Facebook was abuzz with how the air in Singapore was so bad.
We decided to extend an extra night--and it was a good move for the next day, the PSI in Singapore went up to 390! Then 400 (which is considered hazardous level)! People were actually telling us, "We are trying to leave Singapore. Why would you want to come back now???"
On the second day morning, the haze reached Port Dickson! So, on the spur of the moment, Husband managed to book Clove Hall and off to Penang we went for an extra two nights, till the weekend was over and the haze had left Singapore.
Husband and I had always wanted to visit Penang, and we felt both excited and exhausted on the drive up. Thankfully, the kids were such troopers and were minimally difficult in the car.
Clove Hall is a beautiful 6-room boutique hotel in a heritage house. The solitude and restfulness of the grounds were exactly what we needed as a base to explore the rest of Penang. More pictures of Clove Hall can be found here. During our time in Penang, we visited For Cornwallis, Georgetown, Penang Hill (Monkey Cup), tried New Lane hawker food, went to Batu Ferringhi for the longest slide in Asia at Golden Sands Hotel, and ate seafood. It was a lovely day, and I still feel we missed so much, like the Butterfly Farm and the new Adventure Park called Escape.
As there is still so much to do and see in Penang, we will definitely be back one day!
