What a difference 4 years makes!

As part of our Changi Cottage holiday, we moozied over to Pulau Ubin, a short 5 minute bumboat ride away, then hired a van to take us to Chek Jawa. I had not really thought about it, but when we arrived there, it dawned on me that we had made the same trip 4 years ago, when we celebrated Dan's birthday at the SAF Changi Chalet in August 2008! Then, Dan was 3 and Ben 1.5!!

I quickly pulled out my Samsung S3, a truly smartphone, as it downloads all my picasa web albums automatically into my photo gallery, and thus I was able to immediately access photos from that 2008 trip to Chek Jawa. We then made it a point to take similar shots of our family at some of the locations we encountered--like here. In the above, here are shots of our family at the Chek Jawa Tourist Information Centre, in August 2008, and in November 2012.

As we had not revisited Chek Jawa in between those 4 years, it actually felt quite momentous and stirring to take photos in those locations once again! You know, I just wanted to say that it is rare for places in Singapore to remain totally unchanged for four years. Orchard Road? No way. Even Spottiswoode Park has been repainted an awful green colour! The zoo is under construction. Again. Sentosa's Palawan Beach is no longer the same after POLW started. Sigh. The list goes on.

So it really was nice that in laid back ol Chek Jawa, which was still well-maintained after 4 years, nothing, absolutely nothing about the Tourist Information Centre had changed. There were no new multimedia presenations. The place was still entirely un air conditioned. The brick house was still the same. THANK GOD!

So we managed to take a nice photo & I got to put together this nice photo comparison, for keep's sake. See? Sometimes, a lack of upgrading & progress can literally make one feel more emotional & rootedness to a particular place! Literally!
