Dan's first swimming lesson!

Last weekend, Dan had his first swimming lesson with Coach Carl! WOW. Teary moment--Dan has gone from being chicken-scared of water, to being comfortable with waves by the beach and being able to kick and float around with his rubber float.

After his swim lesson, he ran over to me and shouted, "Mummy, I just had a very good swimming lesson you know! I really like swimming with Coach Carl!" Another teary moment.

Anyway, getting a grip, cough, yes, the swim lesson went very well. Thank God! Coach Carl was very professional. He gave us a registration pack, some information to read and a swim booklet which will chart Dan's progress. For the first lesson, Dan & his 2 swim buddies blew bubbles into the water using straws, then they practised kicking in the water while pointing their toes. They also used long flexible stick-things, which they bent around their waists, to swim out a distance in the pool, and back. And then even practised jumping into the pool from the edge, with those stick-things on.

Is it normal to have so many activities for one 45-minute lesson????

OK, anyway, the most important thing is that Dan enjoyed it, which is good!

While Dan was "swimming" with Coach Carl, Husband & I got to chat a bit in the pool while spending time with Ben, who for the most part, still insists on death-gripping our various appendages even though he's got a float on. He can only kick about happily when properly distracted with "antics" such as Husband's Disappearing into the Water Head Trick, Husband's stand on your hands and stick out your legs Trick and Mummy's "you cannot catch me" routine. Very tiring le....

It was all in all a tremendously tiring & fun morning for all. Which explains why both kids were ravenous and whalloped their lunch after that... =)

I suppose Dan has somehow overcome some of his fear of being in the pool. Lets hope that he can make swift progress in picking up the basic swimming skills, and enjoy being in the water without any fear whatsoever. I look forward to that stage to enjoy being with him and teaching him more swimming skills !!!
