We took an ultra short getaway to Koh Samui last week--to celebrate our 5th year wedding anniversary. Here is a shot of us taken with the timer on my automatic digicam, on night function. I thought the colours turned out well, considering. There was a super bright full moon that night, high tide and beautiful breezy weather. This pic was taken outside of Betelnut Restaurant, helmed by Jeffrey Lord. The friendly American chef did not disappoint--we had what I thought was a stunning dinner (for half the price you would pay in Singapore), including a really cuute dessert--a crunchy hot doughnut with vanilla ice cream and drizzled coffee cream. Totally replicable, I think, in my kitchen. And I'll definitely try it some day.
Couple holidays for us are beginning to follow a certain predictable and likable pattern--they'll always involve the beach, and good food. This holiday was no different. Koh Samui totally trumps Phuket, hands down. Whereas Phuket has become a crass tourist destination, chocked full of aggressive touts and massage girls in tight tees, Koh Samui is quiet, idyllic, and stunningly gorgeous. I'll post more photos for everyone to see. You still do get some touts and massage girls, but the main beach Chaweng is actually quiet and idyllic. And the waters are beautiful and shallow--we saw people walking out 1km into the sea and the water was still up to their knees only. Fishes actually came toward us at the shore and swam around us! Unheard of in dirty Phuket.
All in all, an A+ holiday. And with Koh Samui being only 1.5 hours flight from Singapore, we're likely to go again and again, next time, with the kids!
