Istana Open House (again)!
This afternoon, we brought our kids & my mum to the Istana Open House. The last time we went to the Istana was when I was 7 months pregnant with Esther--I took the 2 boys by myself as Husband had to work.
This was my mum's first time to the Istana! She was very excited and wore a very nice outfit! The boys were also excited to see the cannons & the fountain. Dan even remembered the Istana building from the time he came two years ago--he also remembered that there was an exhibition room where gifts that had been given to the President over the years were on display.
This time round, we actually got to see the President. Outside the Istana building, we enjoyed a short performance of bagpipes and, strangely, some mime-cum-break-dancing artists who were dancing to the bagpipes ?!? The President and his wife were on hand to enjoy the performance. Though we didn't get to shake hands, we waved vigorously.
And as per last time, the grounds were strewn with playground equipment, ice cream was on sale, and yes, the good ol tree that Dan scaled two years ago was still around--this time, both Dan and Ben scampered up the tree easily. Esther, on the other hand, occupied herself with the play equipment.
The best thing about our Istana trip was the tremendous amount of space it afforded the kids to just simply run around. We even saw some kids do somersaults down the hills, or roll down them! That was quite funny to watch.
Our two-hour outing was enjoyable, with a good mix of outdoor time & indoor oo-ing and ah-ing at the presidential exhibits. Plus, a bagpipe performance thrown in, all for free! Fwah! We're totally doing this every year man!
