Jurong Bird Park Feather Run 2011

Posted by spots (Singapore, Singapore) on 15 November 2011 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Last Sunday, we did our first family run event @ Jurong Bird Park. I signed up for the 3.5km run while the boys & Husband did the 1.5km Fun Run. Little Esther... stayed in her pram. Hee!

Since September, I've started a new routine of getting the boys & Husband to do a regular jog at the Botanics every Saturday. Well, we haven't quite been able to make it EVERY Saturday, but it's something we want to do as regularly as we can, especially since we live closer to the Botanics now.

The Jurong Bird Park Feather Run thus seemed like a natural next step for us--first to start was me! At 9.30am sharp, the horn was blown and off I went--running round the Bird Park. I'm a slow jogger. Teenagers on wings dashed past me, even a rather portly old Indian man. And just when I thought I must be nearing the end, the route led me UP THE HILL next to Jurong Bird Park! If you are familiar with the Bird Park, you'll know which hill I'm referring to. It had TWO steep slopes that you had to run up to get to the top. Of course, I walked that portion. HAHAHA.

Still, I made it in decent time, and then at 10.30am, the Fun Run commenced. While Husband, Daniel and Ben were off, I took care of Esther. It was kinda cool--the Jurong Bird Park has just opened a new wet and dry playground area for kids--very similar to the one at the zoo. Esther played there while waiting for the boys to return--which didn't take too long actually.

I was very impressed that Dan and Ben ran the whole 1.5km, stopping only for a drink. It took them 15 minutes! Got standard ah! As usual, their running styles revealed their differences in character--Dan would sprint ahead, get competitive with strangers, chase other kids, then run out of steam and lag behind, then sprint ahead again when he got his second wind. Ben on the other hand was slow, steady, paced himself well and never ran out of breath.

Sigh... my two God-given children!

All in all, it was a great time, made better by the fact that the holding area for the runs was the lovely dry and wet playground, which kept the kids busy when they had to wait. ALSO, all participants were allowed to wander around the whole Park before and after their runs, so that was quite nice too.

Here's to more Healthy Lifestyle activities for the Lau Family! ^__^
