Dan's birthday party

Posted by spots (Singapore, Singapore) on 23 August 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

So since we had a big party for Ben, we decided we should also have a party for Dan too this year. And with dress-up being his current favourite pre-occupation, the theme of the party was clear--costume party!

I wasn't sure if this would be too onerous for our friends--dress-up doesn't seem to be a very popular thing in Singapore, unlike America--and costumes ARE expensive to buy in Singapore, unlike America. However, thanks to Kelp & Hwee Ling's extensive collection of spare costumes, plus a few of our own, we managed to pull together a sizable table of extra costumes for kids to come & pick from.

Most of the kids actually did come in some costume--we had 2 Spidermans, 2 Supermans, a pirate girl, a dinosaur (!), several people with masks/flames (?), a baby doctor and a tiger, a princess, 2 chinese costumes (racial harmony day??), several butterflies/fairies, ... and lots of kids tried on the knight costume, bumblebee/optimus prime, firefighter and construction worker suits...

I felt it was definitely fun but a bit chaotic to see everybody running around the playground at SOL, the same place we had Ben's party. We were also very grateful to have such a sporting buddy in Kelp, who donned a pirate costume & led the kids in a short round of games, which they all enjoyed. Once again, our cake of choice was from Vicky's at Henry Park Apartments. Thumbs Up!

This will probably be the last BIG party we have for our kids in a while... Dan was totally enjoying himself, which was nice to see, and he happily declared that "I really liked my party, Mummy!" after the whole shbang was over. It has been a real journey watching and bringing Daniel up. After 2 big moves, to and from America, having to adjust to a baby brother when he was only 18 months old, adjusting to childcare, adjusting to a helper, adjusting to Mummy returning to part time work, and so on... I can really see Daniel maturing, slowly but surely. I really do feel we have put him through so much, so much more than Ben has gone through.... but as we celebrate his 4th birthday, I can thank God that he is maturing, growing, cheerful, effervescent, always smiley, and ever cheeky. =)
