Craft: shieldsPosted by spots (Singapore, Singapore) on 2 February 2009 in Art & Design and Portfolio. More craft from over the CNY period. My boys really like the 2 marching Christian songs--"Onward Christian Soldiers" and "I'm in the Lord's Army". They both sound terribly similar and I get them mixed up all the time. Daniel can sing along to the lyrics while Benjamin (very cuute) just sings the last word/few words of each line, including a very gusty "YES SIR!" at the end of the line "I'm in the Lord's Army!" Anyway, I have been studiously trying to discourage Dan and Ben from playing guns, swords, and all things violent, but over the break, I thought, ne mind la, once in a while. So, they made their swords from blocks (they do this all the time already) and I obliged by making shields from paper plates, using raffia string stapled behind to enable them to "hold" their "shields" up. Daniel wanted me to write "Christian soldier Daniel" on his shield. Wait till I try and explain to him that Christians don't actually fight in physical wars.... now that'll be difficult.... :)
