Birthday at Absolute Haven

Husband took me for a Birthday dinner recently. I'm a difficult person to arrange a surprise birthday dinner for because I don't really like very ostentatious haute couture food, nor do I like spending a lot of $$ on food. And I place high points on ambience (so tze char or food court is out!) So, the challenge is to find a great, romantic place that is reasonably priced with fantastic food. Difficult?

Well, Husband's choice this year was actually quite good--Absolute Haven @ Prinsep Street. The food was good (not fantastic, but very decent), the ambience was great, and the price fantastic! What was mind blowing though, was the personal attention and detail of the restaurant owner. She whipped out a polariod camera and took a shot of us, then pasted the polariod on a special card which was hand-written, thanking us for choosing Absolute Haven for this special occasion. She even gave me a gift from the restaurant - a freshly snipped rose bud in a cute box! And, they also made a special dessert for me, using chocolate to write out a message that Husband had prepared in advance. Wahh..... I seriously have not been the centre of so much attention from any restaurant in my life!

So all in all, I'd say thumbs up to Absolute Haven! One really great dish was the grilled lamb, which I've been trying to replicate. The owner shared with me the ingredients and spices used and I've been trying to get it right. Will post the recipe when I do!
