Dan at the Central Fire Station Open House

Posted by spots (Singapore, Singapore) on 22 December 2007 in People & Portraits and Portfolio.

So did you know that all fire stations in Singapore have an open house every Saturday morning? One of my muso buds, who's doing his NS with SCDF, told me this gem of a piece of information over music practice last weekend. He recommended going to the Central Fire Station (opposite Funan) because it had a huuuuge ladder fire truck and lots of huuuge fire trucks and equipment that would surely thrill the cockles of a two year old's heart.

True enough, Dan was suitably thrilled. He got to sit in the driver seat of a fire truck (actually, he sat in all 6 fire trucks), explore an ambulance, ride a fire bike, squirt water out the water hose, see a firefighter slide down a pole, and even.... go up up up up up in the ladder fire truck - 8 storeys high! It was a very manageable outing, despite having 2 kids and lots of potentially dangerous equipment lying around. We spent about 1-1.5 hours there in total, including the time spent walking through the SCDF Heritage Gallery, which is within the compound of the Fire Station itself. If you're thinking of going, the Fire Station Open House is from 9.30-11am every Saturday morning! And it's free!
