Dan: sleeping in junior bed

Posted by spots (Singapore, Singapore) on 29 October 2007 in People & Portraits and Portfolio.

We moved Dan to a junior bed 2 days ago. The significance of this may not be apparent to non-parents, so let me elaborate: previously, he was sleeping in a playpen, which has four netted walls that prevent him from rolling onto the floor or even, getting out of bed. A junior bed has no walls, just a small railing to prevent him from rolling off the bed. This means that, theoretically, if Daniel woke up in the middle of the night, he could unzip his sleeping bag, get out of bed, open the door and run around the house, if he wanted to.

I was a bit nervous about this. So, I took pains to tell him that once Mommy puts him in bed, he is to STAY IN BED. And if he doesn't, Mommy will spank him. "Do you want Mommy to spank you?" "No spank Daniel Mommy." "Good boy. Now you remember ah!"

I'm happy to report that Daniel has taken to his bed well. He's slept in it without any getting up on his own for 2 nights and his day naps too. He seems to understand the concept that he is not to get out of bed until someone opens the door, turns on the light and picks him up. But as always, kids are prone to change, so please pray that this good behaviour will continue.

Now... the next step is... potty training!
