I was going to title this pic "The differences between Ben & Dan", but looking at it again, I'm beginning to think they look similar. Yup, that's right. In case you still think the above 2 pics are the same baby, the one on the LEFT is 5 day old Ben, and the one on the RIGHT was taken some 2 years ago - it's 2 day old Dan! More pics of Ben here.
But there are differences that go beyond skin deep of course. For one, Ben's eyes rarely open, perhaps because he came "early" at 37 weeks. I would say 95% of the time, even when he is feeding, his eyes are closed. Only recently have we had the privilege & delight of seeing him with his cute eyes open - occasions that have become littered with camera clicks & flashes (because they are so rare!) Secondly, I am so pleased that Ben has been pronouned a "NO JAUNDICE" baby! While Dan had to be in phololight therapy for jaundice for 3 days when he was born, Ben has been faring much better. I am told this is partly because I am breastfeeding much better, and thus hydrating Ben much better, with the meconium passing out of Ben's body in Day 1! Thirdly, while Dan was a voracious eater, Ben seems to be more on the gentle side - he still feeds for 1 hour per time, like Dan, but you can tell each suck is gentler. A kinder, gentler baby *ahem*! ^__^
I must say that having an infant in the house again really puts some perspective on Daniel, a full-fledged toddler. Suddenly, Daniel seems so BIG and MATURE. Wah, he's able to walk and talk!? Wah. Daniel also suddenly seems to much heavier - compared to the lithe Ben! It's truly amazing that in 18 months, Ben will go from the above squidge (wrinkled, hairy, eyes shut, whirring like a bird) to a walking, possibly talking, active, hopefully smiley boy! What a miracle of God the way kids grow! Something to look forward to huh. ^__^
As the saying goes, "mothers know best". You will continually compare Benj with Dan as they grow up together. And in the course of it, you may find some similarities and the differences make them what they are; individual characters and behaviour that you must take cognisance of and the methods you have to employ to nurture them individually to become responsible persons in society. Start by making Dan love and look after Benj.
