Julia's Kitchen, COPIA, Napa

Posted by spots (Singapore, Singapore) on 29 January 2007 in Food & Cuisine and Portfolio.

Over the weekend, Husband & I drove up to Napa for a short break. We had stunning meals at the Culinary Institute of America and Zuzu's (Spanish tapas with a Californian twist). But the best meal of all came from Julia's Kitchen at COPIA. We were intrigued when our friendly Beazley House innkeeper said she'd personally choose Julia's Kitchen over Bouchon (a la Thomas Keller French Laundry fame). Being cynical Singaporeans, we didn't believe her at first, thinking that the restaurant was simply riding on the fame & reputation of Julia Child's name. But boy were we wrong! The food was absolutely stunning. From the crispy veal sweetbreads to the pan seared snapper with parsnip puree (pic above) & raspberry-red wine reduction to the frommage blanc & chocolate crepe cake desserts. I don't think I have ever tasted anything like it! Really A+++ stunning!

Other than culinarily, the trip was also significant because it was the first time, REPEAT first time in 17 monthst that I have been separated from Daniel for more than 8 hours! It was also the first time, REPEAT first time Husband & I have had extended couple time for 17 months! Spending time together ALONE was quite refreshing. For once, we didn't have to keep looking at the car seat at the back of the car, to feed Daniel snacks or to check on his napping. For once, we didn't have to lug along bottles, stroller, diapers, extra changes of clothes & snacks of all kinds. I really thank God for this long-overdue break. And for my parents, who made it possible for us to go on this trip. (They babysat Daniel for us over the weekend!). I think the good food & the fresh air made us remember our couplehood & what it means to be Husband & Wife (not just Mom & Dad) again!
